Friday 26 June: Museum Talks: ‘Obsession, glory and the making of history’ : William Siborne, historian and model maker, and his contribution to the study of the battle of Waterloo.

7pm at the museum.

The third in our 2015 series of Museum Talks.

Philip Abbott, Archives and Record Manager from the Royal Armouries looks into William Siborne’s detailed research into the battle, how his large model showing the ‘Crisis of the Battle’ brought him into conflict with the Duke of Wellington and the ‘official’ version of events, and the ongoing value of his work to historians today.

He will also share the results of the recent examination of Siborne’s new model of the ‘Great Cavalry Charge’ currently on display at the Royal Armouries, what this tells us about how the models were constructed, and what details are hidden behind the glass case.
